You’re excited about the opportunity to lead and scale an amazing product-focused engineering team. You love the thought that your efforts will make everyone in the engineering team successful and more efficient. You are confident that you can take the baton from the technical co-founder and run with it, taking over day-to-day responsibilities ensuring the specification, development, delivery and operation of an amazing SaaS product.

You are a seasoned engineer & architect that understands the outsize potential of a product-centric engineering culture. You are a people person with proven ability to recruit and manage distributed teams, help them gel, and succeed at complex and ambitious projects.

You are a great manager who knows how to play to people’s strengths and help them level up their weaknesses and new skills. You have the vision, wisdom and discipline required to foster a great product development culture and take great pride in helping your team expand their capabilities as people and engineers. You understand the leverage provided by great tooling and architecture, and make space for your teams to invest in it.

You are also a product person who prefers to work with customers directly and be involved in the design & specification of product, rather than have a completed spec handed to you for development. You relish the opportunity to work with cross-functionally with all business units and directly with customers to influence both product and company direction through application of leading-edge technology and ensure a surprisingly awesome customer experience.

You love having your hands in multiple projects at once, working with teams across a diverse array of technologies and projects. You can seamlessly jump between helping a team lead deliver a complex project and working directly on smaller projects. You ask a lot of questions and love spirited yet professional debate, knowing it improves outcomes. You understand how to balance scope with the need to ship, and believe that continuous improvement is a way of life. You approach product development with an entrepreneurial lens, and understand how to tailor the scope & rigor of projects based on each product’s business maturity.

Objectives:

  • Within 30 days, grok the current roadmap and future product vision across all products and channels for the company, learn about the budget & resources available for product development, and plan out the development of our product development ecosystem for the next 12 months to support stated goals.
  • Within 60 days, successfully assume role of functional manager for all three engineering team leads through transition away from founding CTO.
  • Expand the capacity of our product development organization to support multiple teams working on multiple projects across multiple product offerings while staying aligned and coordinated.
    • Within 60 days, work with existing engineering team leads to build and present a plan to CEO for expanding the engineering team to diversify our internal skills base and increase capacity.
    • Within 6 months, lead all product teams to develop & ensure a solid technical architecture that supports all business lines while providing clear separation of concerns and lines of communication so teams can move fast and maintain quality delivery of product.
    • Work with Product Management and teams to document, evangelize and iterate on our product development process across all teams. These teams vary in skillsets, bandwidth, and support from Product Management.
    • Build on our existing Kanban process model by coaching the team to understand how to run projects more effectively through effective planning, communicating through delivery of appropriate artifacts (wireframes, architectural models, flowcharts), frequent iterative validation cycles, and keeping WIP minimal to drive focus and throughput.
  • Within 4 months, spawn a fourth tech team to focus on the development of our direct-to-agent product (a line extension of our current platform). Within 8 months, ensure this new team coordiantes with other teams and succesfully launches an MVP of our direct-to-agent platform.
  • Within 6 months, ensure the existing Tourbuzz Enterprise product team successfully ships an MVP of an upgraded product offering that provides professional real estate photographers with a comprehensive platform for running their business -- from ecommerce through order logistics to customer service and business intelligence dashboard.
  • Within 6 months, lead the R&D team to successful complete of demonstration projects for future 3D/VR product lines.
